The architecturally superb Grosvenor buildings were built by George Dawson to a design by his great architect Hirst of Bristol.
Most of the building was used as a hotel and business boomed when the Royal baths were opened next door in 1897.
The Hotel shut shortly after the First World war.
Opens
Décor opens it doors for the first time in a corner unit of Grosvenor buildings spread over two floors. Specialising in glassware, lighting and lampshades.
decade
Lighting in the early 1950’s had attempted to create a sense of bright modernity to sweep away memories of World war two. Many designers turned their attention to producing lamps for desks or dining tables as well as more general mood lighting. They realised they could give a lamp a modern look by using a metal rod as a stem and by giving them conical shades allowing the light to be directed downwards.
Ambience
Designers began to experiment with lighting that could create an ambience. Creative lighting was used to transform bland interiors or simply to create a mood.

Bright colours and geometric shapes were in fashion and led to some wacky designs!
Expands
Grosvenor buildings was refurbished and Décor expanded into the stunning ground floor unit it still occupies today.
The extra space giving the opportunity to showcase larger furniture collections and ranges of soft furnishings.
